The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be one of the most special as it will take place on the Seine. The opening ceremony will start today at around 19:30h and some of the acts we will be able to see are already known, others are secret and will not be known until the time comes.

Holograms, images of French cultural treasures or musical performances such as Celine Dion or Lady Gaga will be some of the events we will be able to see from 19:30h. In addition to all this, the athletes will embark from the Pont d’Austerliz and travel along the river so that the more than 380,000 sports fans can see and greet them.

SECRETS OF THE CEREMONY

For more than 10 years there has been a confidentiality clause where some of the best kept secrets will not be known until the ceremony begins. What is known is that the time chosen to start the athletes’ pass is something chosen to give meaning to a story.

The sunset and the glowing lights should form part of a performance whose twilight is intended to give the ceremony ‘a poetic landscape’, according to Tony Estanguet, president of the Games. The problem comes from the threat of clouds throughout the afternoon.

The Eiffel Tower will also play an important role in the lighting of the cauldron. Historians, theatre directors and choreographers have been involved in the whole scenography. The doubts or problems for the organisation lie in the possibility of pro-Palestinian messages from some delegations.
