The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the “Olympism365 Summit: Sport for a Better World” will take place from June 3 to 5, 2025, in Lausanne, Switzerland. This exclusive event will bring together over 250 participants from 100 organizations to discuss the impact of sport on sustainable development and the promotion of safe sport.
The summit will serve as a platform for exchanging best practices among representatives of the Olympic Movement, United Nations agencies, development and financial institutions, civil society organizations, and purpose-driven businesses. Additionally, there will be opportunities for virtual participation and live streaming.
SPORT AS A DRIVER OF DEVELOPMENT
The summit will highlight the collective impact of more than 550 sports and community initiatives supported by the IOC in collaboration with global and local partners. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting health, education, inclusion, and social well-being through sport.
One of the primary goals of the event is to strengthen collaboration and co-investment among stakeholders to expand the reach of sport-driven social impact programs. Additionally, the IOC Safe Sport Regional Hub Initiative will be addressed, with the launch of new tools designed to assist Olympic Movement stakeholders in implementing safe sport policies.
OLYMPISM365 AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Olympism365 is the IOC’s strategy to establish sport as a key factor in sustainable development. With 550 projects across 176 countries, this initiative has impacted millions of people through programs that promote health, education, employment, and gender equality.
The strategy is implemented through three main action lines:
- Thematic sport-for-social-development projects
- Direct investment in National Olympic Committees (NOCs) through the Olympic Solidarity Olympic Values Programme
- Flagship IOC initiatives, such as Let’s Move and the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP)
Additionally, the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF) plays a key role in this strategy by ensuring that young people affected by displacement can thrive through safe sport.
Through this summit, the IOC aims to reaffirm its leadership in promoting sport as a tool for social transformation, further strengthening its commitment to a more inclusive and sustainable future.
