The United Nations (UN) officially declared May 19 as World Fair Play Day, an initiative that began to be celebrated this year. This achievement is the result of more than a decade of efforts led by the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP).

On Monday, May 19, Budapest was the venue for a special gala to commemorate the first World Fair Play Day. During the event, the prestigious Fair Play Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations for their commitment to the values of fair play in sport, will be presented.

In addition to the gala, the CIFP Board will meet on the same day, along with the organization’s General Assembly. Notable CIFP members include Princess Nora of Liechtenstein, U.S. Olympic champion Donna de Varona and Miroslaw Cerar, Slovenia’s Olympic champion and father of the former Slovenian prime minister of the same name.

Sunil Sabharwal re-elected as CIFP President

As part of World Fair Play Day activities, Sunil Sabharwal has been re-elected as president of the International Fair Play Committee. Sabharwal, who has held various roles in the organization for approximately 20 years, including Treasurer and Secretary General, will continue to lead the CIFP in its mission to promote the values of fair play in sport.

In order to increase its social media presence, CIFP has engaged digital growth firm Assistagram. This collaboration seeks to boost the reach of CIFP’s messages and attract a wider audience. On April 30, CIFP’s official Instagram account, ‘fairplayinaction‘, launched an inaugural post as part of this strategy.

CIFP also has a LinkedIn page called International Fair Play Committee, in addition to content and graphics available on its official websites: fairplayinternational.org and worldfairplayday.org.
