World Athletics has announced the calendar for the 2027 World Indoor Tour, which will feature 74 competitions across four categories: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Challenger. The new season will provide opportunities for athletes from different disciplines to compete at venues across Europe, North America and Asia, in a circuit designed to maintain international competition throughout the Northern Hemisphere’s winter months.
The season will begin on December 5 with the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff in the United States, a Challenger-level meeting. Attention will then shift to the main Gold category events, which will feature eight competitions between January and February 2027. The circuit will include a scoring system to recognise the best athletes in each discipline and provide financial incentives, as well as qualification opportunities for the next World Athletics Indoor Championships.
World Indoor Tour 2027: eight Gold meetings across Europe and the United States
The Gold-level series will begin on January 27 in Belgrade, Serbia, with the Belgrade Indoor Meeting, before continuing on February 2 in Ostrava, Czech Republic, with the Czech Indoor Gala. Two days later, Madrid will host another edition of the World Indoor Tour Gold before the circuit crosses the Atlantic for the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, scheduled for February 6 in Boston. The programme will continue on February 7 in Karlsruhe, Germany, and on February 10 in Liévin, France, with the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF.
The final stretch will feature two traditional indoor athletics events: the Millrose Games, scheduled for February 13 in New York, and the ORLEN Copernicus Cup, set for February 14 in Toruń, Poland. The latter city will have a special significance, having hosted the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March 2026. Overall, the calendar includes eight Gold meetings, 25 Silver, 14 Bronze and 27 Challenger events, creating a competitive structure that will allow athletes to gain experience and pursue strong results throughout the season.
World Indoor Tour 2027 scoring system and prize money
The circuit will also feature a scoring system to determine the winners in each discipline, with events rotating annually. For 2027, the women’s scoring disciplines will be the 60 metres, 800 metres, 3000 metres, pole vault, triple jump and shot put. In the men’s competition, the events will be the 400 metres, 1500 metres/mile, 60 metres hurdles, high jump and long jump. This will give athletes at each meeting opportunities to earn points and compete for the lead in their respective disciplines.
Points will be awarded to the top four finishers in each event: 10 points for the winner, seven for second place, five for third and three for fourth. The final standings will be determined by each athlete’s three best results. Those who finish with the highest scores in their respective disciplines will receive a US$10,000 bonus and an invitation to the next World Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled for 2028 in Odisha, India. In addition, each Gold-level meeting will offer a minimum of US$7,000 in prize money for every scoring discipline, strengthening the financial incentives for participants.
