In an effort to make curling a more inclusive and accessible sport, World Curling announced a strategic partnership with The Curling Club, a winter entertainment center with venues in London and Manchester. This collaboration marks a milestone in promoting floor curling, a version of the sport that does not require ice and allows participants to enjoy its essence anywhere. The agreement will culminate in the organization of the first British Floor Curling Championship, scheduled for February 2026 to coincide with the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
More than just a sporting event, the initiative represents an open invitation to the community to discover a discipline that combines precision, strategy, and camaraderie. Through this alliance, the United Kingdom joins countries such as South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Turkey, where floor curling has proven its potential to connect cultures and encourage social participation.
A new boost for sports accessibility
Floor curling has become a powerful tool for democratizing sport, especially in regions where ice is not available. Its accessible and adaptable format allows both beginners and experienced athletes to enjoy a complete experience—whether as training, competition, or recreation. In this sense, the collaboration between World Curling and The Curling Club aims not only to expand the sport’s presence in the United Kingdom but also to inspire new generations to take an active role in its development.
According to James Beatt, World Curling’s Director of Commercial Strategy, the goal is to consolidate the success of this format and continue expanding facilities across the country. “Together, we aim to attract more people to the sport, not only as spectators but also as participants, as we continue driving what promises to be an exciting path toward Milano Cortina 2026,” he stated.
A social and sporting experience for everyone
For Dylan Salamon, Director of The Curling Club, this alliance reinforces the belief that floor curling is a sport that can be enjoyed in community, without barriers of age or experience. “It is a privilege to partner with World Curling. They have recognized that our wonderful sport is accessible to everyone and incredibly fun. We are very excited to work with them to bring this fantastic discipline to the wider public,” he said.
The 2026 championship will offer a unique opportunity for curling fans and newcomers alike to experience the excitement of the game in a festive and social atmosphere. With events held across various venues in the United Kingdom, this initiative seeks to establish a new era for British curling—combining innovation, inclusion, and passion for the sport.
