Located in the north of Paris, about 20 minutes from the Stade de France, is the Cité du Cinema, which will be the Olympic Village where all the athletes of the Olympic Games will stay starting July 26th.

There are a total of 72 buildings that make up the facilities, divided into five zones called Abbesses, Bastille, Dauphine, Étoile, and Fêtes. The houses generally follow this layout: a single room with a cardboard bed, a fan, a small table, and a wardrobe, as well as an adapted bathroom—the Village will be the same for the Paralympic Games-, they will also have a living room with a sofa and windows.

NO AIR CONDITIONING

One of the new features is that the houses are built with 100% biologically sourced materials to minimize the carbon footprint. Laurent Michaud, director of the Olympic Village, notes that “normally, in this type of house, there will be a Committee official on the ground floor and four athletes on the upper floor.”

Giorgina Grenon, director of sustainability for the Games, indicates that “solar panels have been installed to supply electricity to the houses, although it will not cover 100% the Paris Games will be the most sustainable.” These solar panels will not provide electricity for air conditioning units, as the organizers point out that the houses are insulated to maintain a temperature inside that is 6 to 10 degrees cooler than outside.
