The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, recently visited Los Angeles, host city of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. During his visit, he toured SoFi Stadium in Inglewood with local officials, including Marqueece Harris-Dawson, President of the Los Angeles City Council. The stadium, home to the NFL’s Rams and Chargers, will be transformed into the largest swimming venue in Olympic history, with a temporary pool and seating for 38,000 people.
In addition to his tour of the stadium, Bach attended the football game between the LA Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs, where he experienced first-hand the vibrant atmosphere of a stadium filled with 70,000 spectators. Afterwards, the IOC President visited the Intuit Dome, a state-of-the-art arena in Inglewood, which will host the basketball tournament during the Olympic Games and is home to the NBA’s LA Clippers.
THE AUTHENTICITY OF LA28
Bach praised the city’s facilities, describing them as ‘impressive’ and predicting an extraordinary experience for athletes at the LA28 Games. “The Games always reflect the sporting culture of the host country, and Los Angeles has a lot to offer,” he said. He also compared the authenticity that the LA28 Games will bring to the recent Paris 2024 Games.
The city of Los Angeles, with its world-class infrastructure, is preparing to deliver an unforgettable Olympic Games in 2028, reaffirming its position as a global benchmark in the world of sport.
