More than 30 teachers and students gathered in the Uruguayan capital to participate in the first FIPV-FUP Training Day, a programme dedicated to the training of trainers in the speciality of frontball. The initiative, jointly organised by the International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV) and the Uruguayan Pelota Federation (FUP), marks a significant milestone in the promotion and development of this sport in the country.

The inaugural day took place in two phases: a theoretical session in the morning and practical activities in the afternoon. The participants, coming from different districts of Uruguay, received a detailed overview of the origins of Basque pelota, its modalities and disciplines, and a specific introduction to frontball. The FIPV presented its vision and mission, underlining the importance of working together with the FUP to consolidate and expand the sport in the region.

During the morning session, the historical origins of frontball, a sport derived from Basque pelota, known for its accessibility and dynamism, were discussed. The training included a review of the basic rules and technical fundamentals, which provided attendees with a solid theoretical foundation. The FIPV’s vision of creating a global network of qualified trainers resonated with the participants, who were enthusiastic about the possibility of contributing to the growth of frontball in Uruguay.

Attendees moved to the fronton, where the theoretical teachings were brought to life through a variety of practical activities. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants engaged in drills designed to improve their technique and understanding of the game. This practical session culminated in a mini team competition, which not only served to put into practice what they had learnt, but also to strengthen the bonds between the future trainers.

The event continued to focus on strengthening the technical knowledge acquired and expanding teaching techniques and methodologies. The goal is to unify learning criteria that are sustainable over time, ensuring that the new trainers are well equipped to pass on their knowledge to future generations.

The joint effort between the FIPV and the FUP is beginning to bear fruit. This training represents the first step on a path that seeks not only to promote frontball, but also to strengthen the sporting institutions in Uruguay. With mutual institutional support, it is hoped that frontball will gain popularity and consolidate itself as a prominent discipline in the Uruguayan sporting landscape.

The training of trainers is fundamental to the development of any sport, and this initiative promises to have a lasting impact. As frontball continues to gain ground, the FIPV and FUP demonstrate their commitment to the future of the sport and their ability to work together towards common goals.
