In a historic moment for Indian volleyball, the Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) has proven to be much more than just a sports tournament. Founded in 2020 by Abhijit Bhattacharya, a former captain of India’s national volleyball team, the league has become a true catalyst for social transformation in Assam, one of India’s most challenging regions.

What started with just 50 teams has grown into a movement involving over 10,000 children, with 401 teams competing in nearly 900 matches during its fifth season. The BVL has been officially recognized as a Silver-Level Project by the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, solidifying its impact beyond the volleyball courts.

INNOVATION AND SOCIAL HOPE

The league’s broadcasting initiative stands as an extraordinary example of technological innovation. Through a partnership with Sportvot, they successfully streamed 72 live matches during the finals using only smartphones and minimal equipment, reaching nearly 700 broadcasts across 170 villages.

Beyond sports, the project has trained over 500 individuals in video production, storytelling, and design, creating real opportunities for community development. The presence of international leaders such as FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and Olympic champions like Vladimir Grbić underscores the importance of this initiative, which transcends the traditional boundaries of sport.
