It is a special year for cricket lovers. In 2024, the T20 World Cup will be held with a historic milestone: the largest men’s World Cup ever organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be played , with 20 teams and a new venue, integrating the United States for the first time as a shared venue with India.
Qualifying teams will be divided into four groups of five teams each. The top two advance to the Super 8 phase, where they will again be divided into two groups and four teams will advance to the semifinals and then to the final.
There will be 55 matches between June 1 and 29, 2024, with the novelty of Uganda as a debutant country in the World Cup.
THE GROUPS
Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and the United States.
Group B: England, Australia, Nambia, Scotland and Oman.
Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.
Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal.
TWO PLACES FOR THE WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT
In 2024, the women’s cricket World Cup will also be played in Bangladesh with 10 teams. The home team, Australia, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies and Pakistan are already in the tournament, with two places still to be decided.
That qualifier will be played in Abu Dhabi between April 25 and May 7. There will be 10 teams divided into two groups, with the two best teams from each advancing to the semifinals. The two finalists will qualify for the World Cup.
