Official meeting between the President of ANOCA and a Hungarian delegation on the sidelines of the Judo Grand Slam and the Ultimate Championship in Budapest
A high-level delegation from the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) held an official meeting today in Budapest with a delegation from the Republic of Hungary, on the sidelines of the Judo Grand Slam and the new athletics competition, the Ultimate Championship, which is currently taking place in the Hungarian capital.
The ANOCA delegation was led by its President, the Honourable Mustapha BERRAF, Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), accompanied by Ms Filomena FORTES, Vice-President of ANOCA, IOC Member and President of the Cape Verde National Olympic Committee.
The delegation was received by a Hungarian delegation led by Mr Gábor PÓSFAI, Minister of the Interior, accompanied by Mr Attila KÁLNOKI-KIS, Secretary of State for Sport, Mr Krisztián KULCSÁR, Member of Parliament and Special Advisor to the Minister of the Interior on sports matters, and Mr Balázs FÜRJES, Hungarian Member of the International Olympic Committee.
A renewed commitment to work hand in hand
The discussions enabled both parties to reaffirm their shared commitment to work hand in hand to advance the unity and development of sport.
Particular attention was given to the continuation of the cooperation agreement between ANOCA and Hungary, including a diploma-level training programme in management and good governance for the Secretaries General and Directors of African National Olympic Committees, as well as a certificate programme in sports diplomacy for NOC Presidents and senior sports leaders across the continent.
Both parties also discussed the possibility of reviving exchanges between Hungarian and African athletes through joint training camps and shared competitions, with the aim of enhancing sporting performance, encouraging the exchange of expertise and creating new development opportunities for athletes from both continents.
“This meeting reflects the shared determination of ANOCA and Hungary to build a strong and lasting partnership in the service of our athletes. Training our leaders, strengthening good governance and developing sports diplomacy remain key priorities for the future of our Movement,” said the President of ANOCA, the Honourable Mustapha BERRAF.
“Hungary is proud to strengthen its ties with the African Olympic Movement. Sport is a universal language that brings our peoples closer together, and we are determined to offer our respective athletes new opportunities for exchange, development and progress,” said Mr Gábor PÓSFAI, Minister of the Interior of Hungary.
Cooperation enters a new phase in 2027
Both parties agreed that the cooperation agreement will take effect from the first quarter of 2027, marking a new phase in relations between ANOCA and Hungary.
Beyond the programmes announced, the meeting reaffirmed a shared ambition to build a long-term partnership based on knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, sports diplomacy and athlete development.
This renewed partnership reflects ANOCA’s commitment to building strong and practical international cooperation that creates lasting opportunities for National Olympic Committees, sports leaders and athletes.
By strengthening the ties between Africa and Europe, ANOCA continues to place cooperation, knowledge-sharing and athlete development at the heart of its international action, further consolidating its role as a bridge between continents in the service of sport and youth.
