Antonio Fernández Arimany has been elected as the new president of World Triathlon during the XXXVII World Congress of the organization, held in Torremolinos, Málaga. With 65% of the votes (90 votes), Arimany was chosen in the first round, succeeding Marisol Casado, who leaves the position after 12 years of leadership. The election was quick and left the members of World Triathlon satisfied with the process, ensuring the continuity of a management that has left a positive mark on the sport.
In his speech after being elected, Arimany expressed his gratitude and emphasized his commitment to a new era for triathlon: “It is a true honor for me to accept this responsibility and lead our beloved sport into a new era. This is an exciting moment for triathlon, and I am ready to face the challenges ahead”, he stated. The new president assured that his focus will be on taking triathlon to the next level, ensuring the necessary support for athletes, coaches, and communities to thrive.
THE FUTURE OF WORLD TRIATHLON
One of the key points in Arimany’s message was the importance of continuing the positive trajectory established by Marisol Casado. He acknowledged the work done by his predecessor and highlighted the relevance of building on the existing foundations. He also thanked the support from the Spanish Federation and all the National Federations that backed his project, noting that his proposal aims to be inclusive and open to everyone involved in triathlon.
The new president also committed to making the necessary changes to improve the organization, focusing on collaboration with National Federations, Continental Confederations, and other members of the triathlon community. “By fostering strong alliances, we can continue the excellent governance of our organization and establish new horizons for the sport,” Arimany emphasized.
With this new leadership, World Triathlon is preparing to face future challenges and continue promoting the growth of triathlon worldwide. Arimany concluded his speech by reaffirming his desire to create an environment where everyone can succeed and where the spirit of triathlon continues to flourish, marking what promises to be an exciting new chapter for the sport.
