SportAccord has confirmed that the SportAccord Convention will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 9 to 13 May 2027, following the postponement of the edition originally planned for 2026. The organisation and its Azerbaijani partners have agreed new dates with the aim of delivering the best possible experience for participants, federations, host cities and representatives of the sports industry.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, highlighted the capital’s readiness to welcome the international sports community. “Baku is ready. As World Capital of Sport, the city looks forward to welcoming the global sports community and delivering a Convention that reflects our ambition and our enduring partnership with SportAccord. We are confident that 9-13 May 2027 will mark a defining moment for the future of international sport,” he said.
Baku strengthens its role as World Capital of Sport
The choice of Baku comes after the city was recognised as World Capital of Sport, a designation that strengthens its position within the international sports calendar. SportAccord said the Azerbaijani capital will provide a prominent setting for one of the most anticipated editions of the Convention in recent years.
The event will bring together leaders from the International Olympic Committee -IOC-, international federations, host cities, rights holders and representatives of the global sports industry. The Convention serves as a platform for high-level meetings, networking, knowledge exchange and partnership development for the international sports movement.

SportAccord looks towards a key edition in 2027
SportAccord President Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener underlined the value of Baku as host city and the commitment shown by local partners throughout the process. “Baku holds a special significance for me, and I have no doubt it will deliver an extraordinary edition of our Convention. The commitment shown by our Azerbaijani partners throughout this process has been exceptional,” he said.
Erdener also described the 2027 edition as an important moment in SportAccord’s own evolution. “This edition will also mark an important moment for SportAccord itself, as we continue to evolve our vision for what this Convention can and should be for the global sports movement,” he added.
A platform for federations, cities and the sports industry
SportAccord is a global sports event organisation based in Lausanne, governed by stakeholders representing more than 120 international federations across Olympic and non-Olympic sport. Its annual Convention is considered one of the main meeting points between sport, business and institutions.
The organisation has also said it will continue developing a programme of initiatives throughout the rest of 2026 and remains in advanced discussions with several world-class cities for future editions of the Convention. SportAccord expects to announce additional host locations in the coming years, as part of a roadmap aimed at strengthening the event’s role as a global platform for the future of sport.
