Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will put his WBC, WBO, and WBA super middleweight titles on the line against Edgar Berlanga today, September 14, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This bout will be a highly anticipated clash in the boxing world, where Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) will look to solidify his status in the super middleweight division after being stripped of the IBF title in July due to his decision to face Berlanga instead of the mandatory challenger for that organization, William Scull.

Álvarez, 34, has proven to be a formidable fighter throughout his career, capturing titles in four different weight classes. His most recent victory was a unanimous decision over Jaime Munguía in May, and since his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022 in a light heavyweight bout, he has won four consecutive fights, all by unanimous decision. This consistency and experience have allowed him to maintain a prominent position in the boxing world.

During a press conference in New York in August, Álvarez expressed his enthusiasm for the fight: “This is a good fight for the fans. I know he will come to give it his all, and I will too. It’s the kind of fight I really enjoy. I can’t wait.” His positive attitude and meticulous preparation suggest that he is ready to face the challenge that Berlanga represents.

Meanwhile, Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs), ranked number 5 in the super middleweight division by ESPN, has had an impressive start to his professional career, securing first-round KO victories in his first 16 fights. However, in his last six fights, he has achieved only one KO, a technical knockout in the sixth round against Padraig McCrory in February. This will be Berlanga’s first title fight, adding an extra level of excitement and pressure to his performance.

Berlanga, 27, commented on the matchup, saying: “Canelo is definitely going to bring out the best in me. Every time I step up, I improve my skills. This fight is about intelligence. We need to make sure we can match him. It’s will against will. We’re not going to run. We’re going to stay in there and do what we know how to do.” Fans and experts are eager to see how this fight unfolds, as it promises to be a highlight event on the boxing calendar.
