The commitment to good governance in European sport took a step forward with the official launch of the SIGGS 3.0 tool by the European Union Office of the European Olympic Committees (EOC EU Office). Presented during a hybrid conference that brought together more than 90 representatives of the Olympic Movement, academic institutions, and European Union bodies, this new version aims to consolidate standards of transparency, integrity, and strategic leadership within the continent’s sports ecosystem.

Developed in collaboration with the Erasmus+ program and technical partner Symantra, SIGGS 3.0 marks a significant evolution from previous editions. The tool was introduced on March 27, at an event that featured participation from EOC EU Office Director Folker Hellmund and EOC CEO Dr. Jan Lehmann, who emphasized the strategic value of this version for the EOC Strategic Agenda 2030 priorities and its role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Olympic Movement.

SIGGS 3.0: a modern tool

Version 3.0 of SIGGS —an acronym for “Support the Implementation of Good Governance in Sport”— offers a more user-friendly, intuitive platform that adapts to the organizational diversity of European sport. It enables national Olympic committees, federations, and other entities to carry out comprehensive self-assessments, receive personalized recommendations, and guide their internal action plans based on key governance principles. Additionally, it facilitates benchmarking with peers, encouraging progress through shared reference.

During the event, attendees were introduced to the tool’s new features through a presentation by project lead Elisabeth Strobach. Several early users also shared concrete examples of how SIGGS 3.0 has helped improve internal governance practices. The integration of this version into the Toolbox for Good Governance aims to establish a free, practical and accessible resource hub, reflecting the ongoing commitment of the EOC EU Office to institutional excellence and public trust in European sport.
