The strength of Bolivarian sport was felt once again in Ayacucho and Lima, where athletes from the region demonstrated that dedication, discipline, and resilience remain the foundation of every victory. In this setting, Venezuela and Guatemala stood out with memorable performances in judo and modern pentathlon, respectively, turning their achievements into a testament to the commitment each delegation has maintained throughout the cycle. Beyond the medal table, their triumphs reflect personal and collective stories shaped by sacrifice and determination.

As the competitions progressed, both nations made it clear that sporting success is also an act of identity. The Venezuelan judokas asserted their presence on the tatami with a combination of experience, composure, and strategy that carried them to the top. Meanwhile, Guatemala’s pentathletes delivered a synchronized performance that revealed deep and sustained work. These two feats, born from such different disciplines, met at a common point: the ability to turn pressure into opportunity and aspiration into achievement.

Venezuela, absolute dominance in Bolivarian judo

The Venezuelan delegation secured the judo title with a total of 17 medals: five gold, four silver, and eight bronze. Their titles came from athletes such as Karen Isabel León Estévez in +78 kg, Leomaris Sarahí Ruiz Graffe in -52 kg, Anriquelis Pauleth Barrios Hernández in -63 kg, Zunilda Leonor Chávez Piñango in -78 kg, and the mixed shiai team—each a protagonist of demanding days marked by technical precision and unwavering confidence. Every match told a story of resilience, where decisions made in fractions of a second shaped the course of the tournament.

Behind Venezuela’s dominance, other delegations also showed signs of growth and projection. Ecuador finished second on the podium with four golds and two bronzes, with standout performances from athletes such as Astrid Carolina Gavidia Bustos and Juan Pablo Ayala Menéndez. Dominican Republic completed the top three with three titles in men’s events, while Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Panama added medals that reflect the region’s progress in the discipline. Each country, with its own style, contributed competitiveness and commitment to a tournament marked by technical diversity and mutual respect.

Guatemala, precision and balance in modern pentathlon

In modern pentathlon, Guatemala delivered an exceptional performance that secured the Bolivarian title with a total of five medals: three gold and two silver. The victories of Andrés Fernández Anleú and Sofía Cabrera Escobar in the individual events, along with the gold in the mixed relay they shared, symbolized the harmony and strength of a team that has grown together. Their efforts extended to the silver medals earned by Juan Alberto Ochoa Calvillo and Paula Sophia Valencia Franco, who also reached the podium after demanding tests in each of the pentathlon disciplines.

Ecuador claimed second place, boosted by the gold medal of María Sol Naranjo Vega and her strong performance in the mixed relays, while Venezuela completed the podium with two bronzes that reinforced the tournament’s competitiveness. This edition of the Bolivarian modern pentathlon once again demonstrated that the balance between endurance, precision, and strategy is essential to achieving excellence, and that the region’s athletes continue to elevate the level of a discipline as complex as it is exciting.
