Google has joined the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a founding partner, in collaboration with the organizing committee, Team USA, and NBCUniversal. The agreement marks a historic milestone for the Olympic Movement: it will be the first time that artificial intelligence is structurally integrated into the organization and experience of the Games, benefiting fans, athletes, and the operational workforce alike.
The partnership involves the use of advanced technologies developed by Google, including Gemini, Google Cloud, and Google Search, with the goal of connecting millions of people to the Games. According to Casey Wasserman, chairperson of LA28, “this partnership reflects our commitment to innovation and to delivering a digitally accessible Games for everyone.”
Google’s AI to enhance the Olympic and Paralympic experience
The alliance will enable the application of artificial intelligence in data management, service personalization, and real-time communication between venues. Gemini, Google’s AI model, will enhance information search and access during NBCUniversal’s coverage, while Google Cloud will streamline data exchange between operational teams and the organizing committee.
Planned applications include navigation tools within venues, instant updates on results and schedules, and automatic translation systems for visitors and volunteers. Marvin Chow, vice president of marketing at Google, noted that “with tools like Gemini and AI-powered Search Mode, it’s now easier than ever for people to find the information they’re looking for, no matter how simple or complex.”
A partnership between innovation and Olympic sport
The agreement strengthens the connection between the technology ecosystem and the Olympic Movement, with NBCUniversal serving as the official broadcast partner and YouTube as a complementary digital platform for content distribution. Mark Marshall, chairman of global advertising & partnerships at NBCUniversal, emphasized that “combining Google’s cutting-edge technology with NBCU’s premium content will deliver a world-class viewing experience for fans across every platform.”
Beyond media visibility, the project reinforces LA28’s strategy to modernize the Games, aiming for an event that is more efficient, inclusive, and digitally connected. The integration of advanced systems will improve coordination among organizers, volunteers, and athletes, ensuring unified and sustainable management.
Bringing the Games closer to fans and volunteers
As part of the agreement, Google will work closely with the LA28 organizing committee on the technical and operational implementation of its solutions. Artificial intelligence will enhance cybersecurity, optimize communication across venues, and accelerate decision-making throughout the event. More than 70,000 volunteers and staff members will benefit from tools designed to deliver real-time information and improve collaboration.
This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in Olympic history, where technology plays a central role in both the sporting and organizational experience. The model introduced in Los Angeles 2028 could serve as a blueprint for future editions, establishing artificial intelligence as a core component in the operation of major international events.
Los Angeles 2028 will operate as an independent, non-profit organization, supported by its own funding and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The partnership with Google reinforces that sustainable and innovative model, while bringing the Games closer to fans and volunteers through a more connected, inclusive, and human experience.
