Shaping the future of Taekwondo in Africa
One of his landmark achievements during his first term was the opening of AFTU’s new headquarters in Niamey, Niger, a project realized through collaboration with the Nigerien government. The new facility symbolizes a new era for African Taekwondo, providing a permanent base for administrative operations, training programs, and athlete development initiatives. It stands as a testament to Issaka’s belief in the importance of building sustainable infrastructure for the sport’s future growth.
The 2025 Assembly also confirmed the reappointment of Balla Dieye as Secretary General, ensuring continuity and stability within the Union’s leadership team. Together, Issaka and Dieye are expected to focus on expanding AFTU’s influence, enhancing coaching and refereeing standards, and strengthening Taekwondo’s role in social development across Africa. Programs promoting youth empowerment and gender equality are set to be central themes of their second-term agenda.
Issaka’s vision remains firmly rooted in using Taekwondo as a vehicle for positive change. Beyond athletic achievement, he sees the sport as a tool for education, peacebuilding, and community development. His renewed mandate offers an opportunity to build on the foundations laid over the past four years and to further position African Taekwondo as a force for both sporting excellence and societal impact.
As he embarks on his second term, Idé Issaka faces the challenge of consolidating past successes while navigating the evolving landscape of international sports. With the continued trust of AFTU’s member nations and a clear strategic roadmap, there is optimism that African Taekwondo will continue to thrive under his stewardship, inspiring a new generation of champions and leaders across the continent.
