Divisions in the ski world? The truth is that there is a kind of open conflict between the ideas of Johan Eliasch, president of the International Ski Federation (FIS), and a block of national federations led by the German Ski Federation (DSV).

The reasons are due to FIS’s intention to expand the world ski scene, that is, to organize itself in a way similar to Formula 1 or tennis with competitions in different parts of the world, opening markets other than the traditional countries of this sport. and including America and Asia as possible scenarios.

EUROPE REPRESENTS 65% OF THE CALENDAR

The above is what it does not have according to a bloc of countries in Central Europe and Scandinavia, led by Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Slovenia and Finland. All of these make up 65% of the World Cup venues, whose rights, however, belong to the FIS.

On the other hand, this block of countries proposes the creation of a Super League in response to the intentions of the International Federation. This opens another area of discussion, since it would mean million-dollar losses for the FIS and the possibility of losing venues for the World Cup.

There was an attempt at mediation between the federations and the FIS, which took place in Switzerland but without agreement between the parties.
