Everton has brought in American billionaire Christopher Sarofim as a new investor, in a move aimed at strengthening the club’s financial structure. Sarofim, 62, is a well-known fund manager and minority shareholder of the Houston Texans in the NFL. His entry comes through Roundhouse Capital, the club’s ownership group, and he will take on an observer role on the board, without triggering any immediate new share issuance.

The addition of Sarofim aligns with the strategy of The Friedkin Group (TFG), the club’s current owner, to attract investors with experience and strategic connections rather than celebrities. His family firm, Fayez Sarofim & Co, manages over $31 billion in assets, and his personal net worth exceeds $3.7 billion. The goal is to give Everton broader access to funding sources, especially in light of the ambitious infrastructure development being driven by TFG.

A profile with financial backing and a long-term vision

Sarofim’s investment will flow directly to Roundhouse Capital, strengthening the ownership group without, for now, changing the club’s shareholding structure. His arrival marks the start of a phase where more technically and strategically focused additions are expected, aligned with a management model increasingly common in English football, where American owners prioritize sustainability and long-term planning. Dan Friedkin, president of TFG, publicly praised Sarofim, highlighting his judgment and experience as key for Everton’s growth.

Since TFG’s arrival in December 2024, Everton has undergone major restructuring. Sean Dyche was replaced by David Moyes, who managed to keep the team in the Premier League, while CEO Angus Kinnear, formerly of Leeds, will join in the summer. The club also cut down millions in debt and secured a £350 million refinancing deal to complete the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. Meanwhile, Goodison Park is being considered as the future home of the women’s team, with study results expected next month.
