The Iranian national Greco-Roman wrestling team displayed an outstanding performance at the World Championships in Amman, Jordan, held from August 19 to 21. The team successfully defended its world title, claiming three gold and three bronze medals, and secured the top position with a commanding 140 points.
Armin Shamsipour (48 kg), Amir Mahdi Saeidi Nava (65 kg), and Danial Izadi (92 kg) each earned gold medals, while Abolfazl Karami (51 kg), Emad Reza Mohsennajad (80 kg), and Ali Asghar Dadbakhsh (110 kg) captured bronze. This stellar performance underscored Iran’s dominance in the competition, with Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan trailing behind with 113 and 105 points, respectively, securing the second and third places in the team standings.
In the 45 kg category, Ahmad Badraddini, after receiving a bye in the first round, lost 9-0 to Marat Atshmyan from Armenia in the second round. However, since his opponent reached the final, Badraddini entered the repechage round, where he defeated Shahid Nabiyev of Azerbaijan 9-4, earning a spot in the bronze medal match. Unfortunately, he fell short against Umidjan Karmov from Uzbekistan, finishing fifth after a 9-1 loss.
In the 48 kg category, Armin Shamsipour, after a bye in the first round, defeated Kaloyan Ivanov from Bulgaria 9-0 in the second round, advancing to the quarterfinals. There, he secured an 8-0 victory over Amre Amrahof from Azerbaijan and advanced to the semifinals, where he dominated Yedige Toleutayev from Kazakhstan with a 10-0 victory. In the final, Shamsipour showcased his prowess with another 10-0 win over Khusniddin Abdukarimov from Uzbekistan, earning the gold medal.
Abolfazl Karami, competing in the 51 kg category, opened with a 16-8 victory over Mehmet Sarp from Turkey and followed it up with a 10-2 win against Adam Abu Fare from Jordan, advancing to the quarterfinals. Karami continued his success by defeating Zuber Abdukov from Russia 10-1 in the quarterfinals, but narrowly lost 8-7 to Kutman Kalbaev from Kyrgyzstan in the semifinals. He rebounded in the bronze medal match, defeating Sargis Harutyunyan from Armenia 7-1 to claim third place.
In the 55 kg category, Amir Ali Heidari, after a bye in the first round, defeated Ilya Kandalin from Russia 6-3 in the second round. However, he was overpowered in the quarterfinals by Alpamis Bulatuli from Kazakhstan, losing 10-1. In the repechage round, Heidari defeated Yuki Hirohashi from Japan 6-2 but narrowly missed the bronze, losing 5-4 by technical fall to Yuriy Mkhitaryan from Armenia, finishing fifth.
Abolfazl Shiri, competing in the 60 kg category, suffered a 7-6 defeat in the second round to Dosbol Shamil from Kazakhstan after a bye in the first round and was eliminated after his opponent lost in the quarterfinals.
In the 65 kg category, Amir Mahdi Saeidi Nava began his campaign with an 11-0 victory over Zaid Naqooj from Jordan, followed by a technical fall victory (2-0) against Arseni Kaisyn from Moldova. In the quarterfinals, he secured a 9-1 victory over Fayazbek Ashirzayev from Uzbekistan and advanced to the semifinals, where he triumphed 1-1 on criteria against Narek Grigoryan from Armenia. In the final, Saeidi Nava captured the gold with a 6-2 victory over Vladislav Pokotilo from Ukraine.
Mohammad Kazemi, in the 71 kg category, was defeated 4-2 by Behruzbek Valiev from Uzbekistan in the first round and was eliminated after Valiev lost in the semifinals.
In the 80 kg category, Emad Reza Mohsennejhad defeated Shokhjakhon Shovkatov from Uzbekistan 3-0 in the first round, followed by a 6-0 win over Dusan Stokic from Serbia to reach the quarterfinals. There, he won 6-5 against Yigit Hamza Sari from Turkey but was overwhelmed 9-0 by Mikhail Shkarin from Russia in the semifinals. Mohsennejhad secured a bronze medal with a 6-0 victory over Dinkov Nikov from Bulgaria.
In the 92 kg category, Danial Izadi began with a 9-0 victory over Patrick Budor from Croatia, followed by a 6-0 win against FakhriKamol Komiljonov from Uzbekistan to reach the quarterfinals. Izadi then defeated Kanstantin Kasyan from Russia 6-1 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals, where he secured a 5-0 victory over Lyova Shukhian from Armenia. In the final, Izadi claimed the gold with a 4-0 victory over Ole Ayke Sturning from Germany.
Finally, in the 110 kg category, Ali Asghar Dadbakhsh, after a bye in the first round, defeated Ulankandas Otegenov from Kazakhstan 3-1 in the second round and narrowly overcame Syran Kirakasyan from Armenia 4-3 in the quarterfinals. However, he was overpowered 8-0 by Ivan Yankovski from Ukraine in the semifinals. Dadbakhsh secured the bronze with a 3-1 victory over Haorui Wang from China.
