Meet the pelotaris of the XI World Championship of Basque Pelota U-22

Pamplona-Iruña is hosting for the first time an Under-22 Basque Pelota World Championship since its first edition in 1984. Pamplona-Iruña joins Arnedo, Soria, Valdepeñas, Barcelona, Palencia, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Íscar and Valleado; the eight Spanish cities that have hosted this international event in its 30-metre, 36-metre, 54-metre and trinquete fronton modalities.

Seven teams will compete in this world championship. From Argentina, Camilo Nicolás Candal, Patricio Peloni, Santiago Markel, Antonio Arredondo, Laureano Calo and Bautista del Rio will compete in Herramienta, coached by Esteban Zarabozo, Javier Vila and Mario Basualdo.

In Bolivia, Esteban Soliz, Juan David Vargas and Victor Laura Vazquez will play for victory in Pelota Mano. Peru will have two pelotaris for Pelota Mano, Jesus Poma and Jose Lozano and another two pelotaris for Herramienta, Renzzo Gonzales and Rodrigo Chirito.

Cuba, Spain, France and Mexico will compete in all disciplines. For Pelota Mano, the Cuban pelotaris are Miguel Delgado and Cesar Dominguez. The Spaniards are Iker Amiano, Ekhi Irribarria, Beñat Apeetxea, Carmelo Loza, Unai Amiano and Unax Apeztegia. The French Pelota Mano pelotaris are Damien Barnetche, Vincent Bassibey, Benjamin Gaillard and Xabi Harguindeguy and the Mexicans are Fernando Medina, Abraham Moctezuma, Donovan Medina, Marvin Hernandez and Habriel Espinosa.

The Cuban pelotaris competing in Herramienta are Andres Justiz and Yohan Martínez. From Spain, Iker Aramendia, Juan Fernández de Arcaya, Miker Iribarren, Gonzalo Pérez and Telmo Charro. In France, Hugo Duple, Matis Ferrere, Patxi Morros, Tom Lauihe, Kyran Techer and Quentin Mariaud. Finally, the Mexicans Agustín Méndez, Ander Jardón, Jorge Olvera, José Joaquim Newman, Edgar Chávez and Humberto Sánchez.

In Cesta Punta, Cuba’s Dariel Cruz will represent his country, while Spain’s Eñaut Urreisti, Gonzalo Aguirre, Arai Lejardi, Erika Mugartegui, Elaia Gogenola and Oaia Otaño will be the pelotaris. In France Charles Bonnin, Emeric Libois, Paul Caparrus, Oihana Solozabal, Romane Mercadie and Xana Gonzáles will be the pelotaris and the Mexicans Brono Carvajal, María Fernanda Ballesteros and Tania Mayorga.
