Paris 2024 will represent a before and after in the Olympic Games since the sports that the general public knows will give way to more urban sports adapted to the youngest. Traditional karate has given way to groundbreaking break dancing. One of the most legendary events, such as the 50 kilometer walk, has also been suppressed; the future of the Olympic Games points to new and, above all, urban sports.

The Tokyo Olympic Games already showed the modernization that was wanted to be established. The IOC sought to approach the young public with some new modalities such as skateboarding, golf, 3×3 basketball or climbing. In Paris, the IOC will continue its idea of bringing new disciplines such as the aforementioned break dance.

The urban sports that young people consume and practice right now are those that, little by little, will be introduced into the Olympic Games, skateboarding or 3×3 basketball are already Olympic and were the first to be, in Paris 2024 breaking will be dance and who knows if in future editions of the Olympic Games we will be able to see parkour or capoeria. In short, young people are consumers and practice these types of sports, more urban, street sports that are also successful on social networks.

Skateboarding: Skateboarding is a young and spectacular sport that developed in the United States in the ’50s. In Paris the best skaters in the world will compete in the two most popular disciplines of this sport: park and street. The discipline will be held in the famous Place de la Concorde, in the heart of the French capital.

Climbing: It is a modern sport that has become immensely popular in the last 20 years. Sport climbing took its first steps onto the Olympic stage at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. The discipline debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Games, thus joining the Olympic program as a new sport.

3×3 Basketball: It is played in the middle of a basketball court in which two teams of three players compete. Both teams attack and defend in the same ring, depending on who has possession of the ball. The winner is the team with the highest score at the end of the 10-minute period or the first team to reach 21 points. After the resounding success of this young sport at the Youth Olympic Games, the IOC announced in 2017 its decision to include 3×3 basketball as part of the Olympic program at the Tokyo 2020 Games and it can also be seen in Paris.
