The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games promises to be an unforgettable event. This initial event has been planned since June 2023 under the direction and supervision of Maud Le Pladec, a French choreographer who currently serves as dance director of Paris 2024.
The Seine will be the main stage for this inauguration, along with the historical monuments around it, which will be filled with light and music. But how do so many people prepare for an event of this magnitude?
The delegations of the nations participating in the Olympic Games will parade on boats along the mythical Seine River, which is why the captains of these vessels have been preparing since dawn to be able to keep the precise rhythm and take into account every last detail. which is undoubtedly a technical challenge.
On the other hand, hidden in the city is one of the many warehouses where only a handful of dancers, of the 400 who will be present at the inauguration, hard rehearse the choreographies for the opening of the Olympics. In a conversation with the Olympics site, Louise – one of the dancers – comments: “We train eight hours a day, all week, and then we will meet a week before to resume training and test it in real conditions.”
It is estimated that there will be around three thousand dancers, artists and athletes who will give life to the opening and closing show of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Despite the number, each of the participants will have a custom-made wardrobe for the presentation, this with the help of stylist Daphné Bürki.
Despite having everything planned, there are things that escape the hands of the organizers, the artistic director of the ceremonies, Thomas Jolly, referred to that: “We know that we cannot control the time, so we have to take it into account. and find a way to be flexible (…) We have plans in case the current is a little stronger or a little weaker, and the ceremony will adapt according to the Humidity levels. If there are sets that become slippery or dangerous, we will have to adjust those landscapes, but others will be preserved.”
The opening ceremony will be on July 26 and we will be able to see everything planned by the organization in action.
