The IOC Executive Board on Wednesday highlighted significant progress in the organisation of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games and the French Alps 2030 Olympic Winter Games. The reports presented by the respective Coordination Commissions underlined the importance of collaboration and strategic partnerships in the development of these events.
According to the report by Kirsty Coventry, chair of the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Commission, preparations are progressing well under the leadership of Andrew Liveris and Cindy Hook. The project is already showing considerable momentum with seven years to go until the Olympics.
BRISBANE 2032
The Commission reported on the collaboration between the IOC, Olympic stakeholders and local partners to develop the venue master plan. This process will include a 100-day review led by the Queensland Government to optimise Games infrastructure. Coordination with the Independent Games Infrastructure and Coordination Authority will also ensure that the benefits to local communities align with Olympic Agenda 2020 and New Norm’s sustainability strategies.
Coventry also highlighted that the Brisbane 2032 team has gained valuable lessons from the Paris 2024 Games, actively participating in briefing and coordination sessions with the Los Angeles 2028 project. These experiences are influencing Brisbane’s 2025 strategy and operational approach.
FRENCH ALPS 2030
Regarding the French Alps 2030 Winter Games, Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, chair of its Coordination Commission, reported on key steps towards the organisation of the event. One of the most important milestones was the delivery of the Games Performance Guarantee in October, within the deadline set by the IOC.
The report praised the decision of local governments to replicate the SOLIDEO structure, successfully used in Paris 2024, for the delivery of infrastructure. In addition, collaboration with the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) was highlighted, which is facilitating steady progress in the foundational work.
A SHARED VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Both reports underline the commitment of the IOC and local organisers to the principles of sustainability, legacy and value for money. Both Brisbane 2032 and French Alps 2030 are positioning themselves as models of Olympic planning, prioritising tangible benefits for local communities and the environment.
