French police are still searching for Beninese athlete Odile Ahouanwanou, who disappeared on September 10 after dropping her son off at a daycare in Normandy. The prominent heptathlete, an African champion, did not return to pick up her son, raising alarms and prompting an ongoing investigation.
French authorities have reported that the last known sighting of Ahouanwanou was when she was driving a Volkswagen Polo. Since then, no clues have emerged to help locate the 33-year-old athlete, who represented Benin at the Olympics and finished eighth at the 2019 World Championships in Doha.

The Beninese government, through its spokesperson Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji, has expressed concern and confirmed that they are collaborating with French authorities in the search. “As soon as we learned of her disappearance, state services began working together with their French counterparts. We still have no details about her whereabouts, but the investigation is ongoing,” the spokesperson stated.
While it is not ruled out that her disappearance may have been voluntary, investigators are keeping all lines of inquiry open and continue to track any leads that could lead to Ahouanwanou’s location.
This case has shocked both the sports community and the general public, who are closely following the developments of the investigation.
