The 2025 FISU Winter World University Games are underway in Turin

The city of Turin, Italy, has become the epicenter of university sports with the commencement of the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games. At the majestic Inalpi Arena, over 2,000 athletes from 57 countries paraded during the vibrant opening ceremony, marking the beginning of ten days of competition and sports celebration. This year’s edition, running until January 23, promises to stand out for both the quality of the events and the inclusion of new disciplines.

This edition will feature 96 finals across 11 sports, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, curling, and ice hockey. One of the major highlights of 2025 is the inclusion of Paralympic sports such as alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, reaffirming FISU’s commitment to inclusion and sports for all. This innovative approach not only broadens the scope of the games but also celebrates diversity and the spirit of resilience.

EARLY COMPETITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

At Turin’s Palavela, figure skaters fine-tuned their routines during initial practices, while snowboarders competed in the first group stages in Bardonecchia. Curling also saw early action with training sessions and preliminary results, and women’s ice hockey kicked off with thrilling victories for Slovakia and Canada.

Today, January 14, the medal events officially began in disciplines such as curling, alpine skiing, snowboard cross, and biathlon. With a packed schedule of exciting events, this edition promises unforgettable moments, highlighting emerging talents in university sports. Turin is set to host an incredible showcase of effort and athletic excellence in every competition.
