Formula 1 has unveiled its calendar for the 2026 season, which will once again feature 24 Grands Prix and introduce significant changes. One of the most notable is the addition of Madrid, returning to the championship for the first time since 1981 with a new circuit combining urban and non-urban sections. The debut is scheduled for the weekend of September 11–13 at the “Madring” track, currently under construction.

On the other hand, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola will be dropped from next season’s race lineup, after being part of the calendar in recent years. The season will kick off in Melbourne from March 6–8 and end in Abu Dhabi from December 4–6. Barcelona remains on the schedule, with the Spanish GP set for June 12–14, meaning Spain will host two races in 2026.

A new era for Formula 1

The 2026 calendar marks the beginning of a new era for Formula 1, with the implementation of a revamped technical regulation that will affect both aerodynamics and power units. For the first time, cars will use 100% sustainable fuel, aligning with the sport’s environmental commitments. In addition, new manufacturers like Cadillac, Audi, and Ford will enter the grid, promising increased competition.

Among other changes, Monaco moves from its traditional late May date to June 5–7, while Canada shifts to May 22–24 to better align with the calendar’s logistics and reduce its carbon footprint. “2026 will mark a new era for Formula 1,” said F1 President Stefano Domenicali, who emphasized both Madrid’s arrival and the sport’s sustainability efforts as key aspects of what promises to be one of the most exciting seasons in the championship.
