The FIBA Foundation’s first Impact Report highlights the outstanding achievements of the Basketball For Good initiatives in 2023, underlining how basketball has proven to be an effective tool for changing lives. Through this inaugural report, the FIBA Foundation has documented the positive impact its projects have had around the world, spanning more than 100 countries and five continents, and benefiting more than 250,000 young people. This work, which also included the training of nearly 200 facilitators, reinforces the belief that basketball has the power to transform communities and create opportunities for future generations.

One of the most impressive aspects of the FIBA Foundation’s initiatives in 2023 was the donation of key resources. Through ‘Basketball For Good,’ 6,000 Molten balls and 7,500 items of PEAK apparel were distributed to youth participants and coaches in these programs. These materials not only served to support sports activities, but also to promote inclusion and empowerment through sports, providing young people with tools for both physical and personal development.

The programs also had a significant impact on youth leadership. In 2023, 84 youth leaders from 51 countries were empowered and reported a marked increase in their confidence to lead and empower others in their communities. These initiatives are not only strengthening communities in the short term, but are also building a solid foundation for the continued development of neighborhoods and communities around the world.

THE PARTICULAR SUCCESS OF MINI BASKETBALL

One of the most successful initiatives was ‘Mini Basketball‘, which in 2023 managed to involve more than 200,000 children, 100,000 coaches and 200 volunteers. Through playful activities and age-appropriate drills, participants learned the fundamentals of basketball while fostering social impact. In addition, three international ‘Mini Basketball’ conventions were held, training 65 delegates from 62 countries to replicate these teachings in their respective regions.

The year 2023 was also a record year for the ‘Propose a Project’ program, the Foundation’s fastest growing initiative. This program is designed to support organizations that use basketball as a tool for social change and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. During 2023, 42 projects benefiting more than 10,000 people were supported, with a 90% increase in applications, highlighting the growing global interest in leveraging basketball as a vehicle for social transformation.

The FIBA Foundation thanked its partners for their support and invited them to continue working together to make basketball a means to improve the world. The achievements in 2023 underscore that sport is not just a game, but a powerful tool for social change that can transform the lives of individuals and entire communities.
