Asunción has begun accelerating its countdown toward one of the most distinctive sporting events on the international calendar. Paraguay officially presented the World Skate Games ASU26, the largest global event dedicated to roller sports, which will take place from October 2 to 18, 2026. In this context, Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña highlighted the significance the event will have for the country. “Today I had the cordial visit of Sabatino Aracu, President of World Skate, as part of the federation’s official visit and the official launch of the World Skate Games ASU26. The fact that Paraguay will host this great global competition fills us with enthusiasm and shows that we are ready to welcome the world,” he said.

The president also emphasized the value of sport as a driver of development and social cohesion. “Sport is a fundamental tool for development, and we are committed to making this event a true sporting celebration. Welcome to Paraguay, and let’s keep working together,” Peña added, highlighting the institutional support behind the organization of the Games and the country’s ambition to position itself as a host of major international events.

A city beginning to move to the rhythm of skate

The official presentation took place at the Hall of Medalists of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, where national authorities, international sports leaders, and athletes gathered to begin the road toward the Games. The event included the participation of the Minister of the National Sports Secretariat of Paraguay, César Ramírez Caje; the President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Camilo Pérez López Moreira; and Sabatino Aracu himself, reflecting the joint work between the government, sports institutions, and the international federation.

During the ceremony, the spirit of roller sports came to life on stage through demonstrations by Paraguayan athletes with international experience. The exhibitions included artistic roller skating, skateboarding, and inline hockey, disciplines that showcased the essence of these sports: gliding, accelerating, and defying gravity while transforming the urban environment into a space for play and expression.

A global event returning to South America

As the evening progressed, organizers also presented the concept that will accompany the Games throughout the coming year: “United on Wheels.” The message aims to represent the identity of a global community connected through movement, creativity, and sport. The idea suggests that cities, generations, and cultures meet along the same path, reflecting how these disciplines have become part of contemporary youth culture.

Since its debut in Nanjing in 2017, followed by editions in Barcelona (2019), Buenos Aires (2022), and various cities in Italy (2024), the World Skate Games have established themselves as the largest global gathering for roller sports disciplines. The competition brings together 154 world titles in a single edition and gathers thousands of athletes of all ages. For 2026, more than 10,000 accredited participants from over 100 countries are expected, with competitions across several venues in Asunción, as well as locations in Paraguarí and Altos, in an event that aims to position Paraguay as a regional hub for major sporting events connected to urban movement and new generations.
