The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has been leading an unprecedented initiative to boost the development of volleyball worldwide. To date, the FIVB has invested over $47 million in the global volleyball ecosystem through its Volleyball Empowerment program. This effort has been crucial in strengthening national structures, supporting coaches and teams, and promoting the sustainable growth of the sport worldwide.
In 2024, the FIVB allocated more than $6.3 million to fund 197 projects across 74 National Federations. These investments focused on key areas such as coach support, volleyball equipment, and knowledge transfer programs. This approach has allowed the FIVB to actively support more than 92% of its National Federations, driving volleyball development at all levels. Guided by the Strategic Vision 2032, the Volleyball Empowerment program will continue in 2025 under the presidency of Fabio Azevedo, aiming to expand its global reach and introduce new support initiatives.
DEVELOPMENT AND PROJECTIONS
The FIVB’s investment in 2024 was remarkable. More than $5 million was dedicated to supporting top-level coaches, which has been essential in improving the competitiveness of national teams. Additionally, nearly $1 million was invested in essential equipment for the sport’s growth, while almost $300,000 was allocated to knowledge transfer programs that enabled National Federations to adopt best practices for sustainable volleyball development.
The Volleyball Empowerment program will continue in 2025 with the introduction of the Volleyball Empowerment 2.0 phase under the leadership of Fabio Azevedo. This new stage is based on the philosophy of “Together as One” and seeks to expand the global reach of volleyball by creating new support initiatives and strengthening all stakeholders in the sport. The goal is for the entire volleyball ecosystem to grow in commercial, technical, and social relevance, thus contributing to the fulfillment of the FIVB’s Strategic Vision 2032. With this strategy, volleyball is expected to remain one of the world’s most popular and dynamic sports.
