In an inspiring display of dedication to youth development, the Um Hong-Gil Human Foundation marked the opening of its 16th school, Prithvi Secondary School, in Tarakeshwar Municipality, Kathmandu. This humanitarian endeavor, part of the foundation’s mission to enhance educational infrastructure across Nepal, hosted a gathering of prominent figures including World TaekwondoPresident Chungwon Choue, Um Hong-gil himself, and Krishna Hari Maharjan, Mayor of Tarakeshwar Municipality.

Joining these distinguished guests were Prithvi School Principal Narayan Sharma, Nepal Taekwondo Association President Prakash Rana, and Namdev Shirgaonker, President of India Taekwondo. Approximately 500 students, local dignitaries, and community members attended the event, which featured a Taekwondo demonstration by the Nepal Taekwondo Demonstration Team and a vibrant performance of traditional Nepali folk dance, celebrating the cultural heritage and unity of the region.

Supported by the Asia Development Foundation (ADF), the 2024 Nepal WT-ADF Cares Program will introduce Taekwondo training to Prithvi Um Hong-Gil Human School. This program aims to foster physical fitness, discipline, and resilience in the students, guided by an experienced instructor from the Nepal Taekwondo Association.

INCREASING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES

WT and the Um Hong-Gil Human Foundation launched the Cares Program in 2022 at the 4th Birenthanti Human School in Nepal. This initiative, which grew from a memorandum of understanding signed by WT and ADF in 2019, provides martial arts training and personal development opportunities for underprivileged youth, including orphans, across eight countries: Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Timor-Leste, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan.

The expansion of the WT-ADF Cares Program to Prithvi Secondary School underlines the ongoing commitment of both WT and the Um Hong-Gil Human Foundation to uplift disadvantaged communities and empower the next generation through Taekwondo. This training instills values that go beyond the martial art, promoting a disciplined, healthy, and focused lifestyle among young participants.

IMPROVING LIVES WITH TAEKWONDO

For WT President Chungwon Choue and Um Hong-gil, this event represented not just the opening of a new school but a renewed commitment to providing opportunities for youth empowerment. The support from the Asia Development Foundation underscores the powerful impact of collaborative efforts aimed at improving lives through education, sports, and cultural programs in communities that need them the most.

As the 2024 Nepal WT-ADF Cares Program takes off, it brings hope for a brighter future to the youth of Tarakeshwar Municipality, showing that, with concerted effort and support, the aspirations of communities across Nepal can continue to reach new heights.
