The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has launched an ambitious strategic plan to strengthen sports disciplines for visually impaired athletes. This plan covers several key areas, including governance, certification, education, and recognition, aiming to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for athletes. IBSA has initiated a comprehensive consultation involving athletes, coaches, officials, and national federations to ensure that decisions reflect the needs of all stakeholders.
The plan also includes the creation of the Advisory Council of Sports Committee Presidents and the implementation of a certification and standardization system for sports equipment. Education plays a crucial role, with programs designed to enhance the skills of coaches, referees, and administrators, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to all.
STRENGTHENING SPORTS DISCIPLINES
One of the key initiatives is a comprehensive review of the organizational structure, which includes the establishment of the Advisory Council of Sports Committee Presidents. Led by Tinatin Revazashvili, this council aims to improve communication and decision-making across various sports disciplines, promoting balanced and efficient growth. Additionally, a certification and standardization system for sports equipment has been introduced, ensuring that all events meet strict safety and quality standards, reducing disparities in infrastructure and accessibility.
Education is another fundamental pillar of IBSA’s strategic plan. Educational programs have been developed to enhance the skills of coaches, referees, and administrators, ensuring equal access to opportunities, regardless of background or resources. Moreover, a nomination system has been established to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of blind sports. This recognition not only celebrates past achievements but also serves as an inspiration for future generations, fostering a sense of belonging and valuing the dedication of those who have helped shape and grow the movement.
