A total of 188 boxers from 56 National Olympic Committees have already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Boxing Tournament at the first qualifying event held in Busto Arsizio, Italy, and through the continental qualifiers. The second and final qualifying event will take place in Bangkok, Thailand from May 25 to June 2, where boxers will compete for the remaining 51 spots.

During the first World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, 49 boxers secured an Olympic spot. This figure was part of the report presented by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit (PBU) to the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), where the future of boxing in the Olympic Games was also addressed.

TOURNAMENTS ORGANIZED BY THE IOC

The qualifying tournaments were organized by the PBU, a unit created ad hoc by the IOC, after the suspension and withdrawal of recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA), with whom it maintains a conflict and with whom it has threatened to leave the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 without boxing if they don’t solve their problems and organize it themselves. And the boxing competition in Paris 2024, like the last two editions of the Olympic Games, will be under the direct supervision of the IOC.

Among the Latin boxers who have obtained their Olympic classification, figures such as Ingrit Valencia and Yílmar González from Colombia, Atheyna Bylon from Panama, and Julio César la Cruz from Cuba stand out, who will seek to defend his Olympic title achieved in Tokyo 2020. Spain will also have a strong representation in boxing, with 10 fighters competing in the first qualifying tournament in Italy, led by Olympians Gazi Jalidov and Enmanuel Reyes Pla. Other Spanish talents are Martín Molina, world medalist, and Ayoub Ghadfa, European champion.

With this large representation of 188 qualified boxers, the sport of fists is emerging as one of the most competitive of the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Fans will be able to enjoy intense combats and the possibility of seeing new champions emerge at the event. olympic
