The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the launch of the 2025 edition of its Climate Action Awards, an initiative that aims to recognize innovative projects with measurable impact in the fight against climate change. In collaboration with Deloitte, a worldwide Olympic and Paralympic partner, these awards are aimed at National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Sports Federations (IFs), and Olympic and Paralympic athletes committed to sustainability.
The call invites the submission of projects that actively reduce the climate impact of sport, through actions such as lowering the carbon footprint, recycling equipment, responsible waste management, or promoting sustainable diets. “It’s not just about recognizing bold ideas, but about driving a movement,” said Marie Sallois, IOC Director of Corporate and Sustainable Development, highlighting the call to transform sport through an ecological lens.
Mentorship, innovation, and sustainable transformation
The 2025 edition of the awards not only offers visibility, but also technical and personalized support for the winners. Selected NOCs and IFs will be invited to participate in an experience within Deloitte’s Innovation Lab, facilitated by the Greenhouse team, where they can enhance their climate initiatives using cutting-edge tools and methodologies. Meanwhile, athletes will receive six-month specialized mentorships, guided by regional sustainability experts, to scale or refine their proposals.
From Deloitte, Jen Steinmann, Global Sustainability Business Leader, highlighted the program’s collaborative nature: “We are especially proud of the lab and the mentorship components, which allow us to work alongside organizations and athletes to bring their ideas to life.” With this approach, the IOC Climate Action Awards 2025 are becoming a transformative platform that connects elite sport with environmental commitment, reinforcing the Olympic movement’s role in building a more sustainable future.
