The Future Games represent a new sports category called “phygital gaming“, which merges the digital and physical worlds in competitions that blend electronic sports (esports) with traditional sports. Unlike augmented reality games such as Pokémon Go, the Future Games combine video game competitions with equivalent physical challenges in the real world. This innovative format offers a unique competitive experience that goes beyond what has been seen in sports, involving both virtual and physical skills.
The first edition of these games was held in Kazan, Russia, in 2024. More than 260 teams from over 100 countries competed in 21 disciplines, divided into five main categories: Sport, Tactics, Strategy, Speed, and Technology. For example, in the Sport category, participants competed in both traditional sports like football and basketball, as well as their digital versions. The innovation lies in the fact that players must excel not only in the virtual realm but also prove their skills in the physical arena.

One of the most exciting competitions is Tactics, where 3D tactical games are combined with real-world laser combat. Other categories, like Speed, offer relay races that start in video games and end in physical challenges, and Technology, which features drone races and robot battles, introducing advanced technology into the competitive world.
For the 2025 edition, the Future Games will be held in the United Arab Emirates, while Kazakhstan has been chosen as the host for 2026. The organization of these events has attracted the interest of many countries due to the growing prestige of the Future Games, which are setting the standard for the fusion of sports and technology.
This annual tournament not only challenges players’ skills in both worlds but also creates a new generation of hybrid athletes who must master both gaming and physical sports. The Future Games are redefining the concept of sports competition, becoming a unique platform that blends culture, technology, and innovation.
