UEFA has announced the member associations have submitted declarations of interest to host the 2027 UEFA Champions League and 2027 UEFA Women’s Champions League finals: two cities bid to host the men’s final and four cities bid to host the women’s final. While these declarations are non-binding, they represent the first step in the bidding process, which will culminate with the submission of final proposals on March 19, 2025.

The UEFA Executive Committee will make the final decision in May 2025, choosing the cities that will host two of European soccer’s most important events.

CANDIDATES FOR THE MEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

For the 2027 UEFA Champions League men’s final, two cities have shown interest. On the one hand, Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, has proposed the Baku Olympic Stadium as the venue. This city already hosted the Europa League final in 2019. On the other hand, Madrid is looking to host with the Metropolitano Stadium, where Atletico Madrid plays its home games. Madrid has already hosted the Champions League final in 2019, when the stadium hosted Liverpool’s victory over Tottenham.

GREAT INTEREST FOR THE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

As for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, four cities are interested in hosting the 2027 final. Warsaw (Poland) has proposed the National Stadium, which has hosted the 2015 Europa League final in the past. For its part, Barcelona (Spain aspires to host both the men’s and women’s final) wants to host the event at the Camp Nou, an emblematic stadium that, after being renovated, could provide an unrivaled stage for women’s soccer and which has already been filled on occasion with the FC Barcelona of Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmatí, among other local stars. Spain is thus seeking to position itself among the elite of international venues.

Switzerland has put forward Basel as a candidate, proposing St Jakob Park, which has already hosted the Europa League final in 2016. Finally, Wales has shown interest with Cardiff, proposing the National Stadium of Wales. Cardiff hosted the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in 2017, which gives it previous experience in organizing such events.

FINAL DECISION IN MAY 2025

The bidding procedure was launched on 30 September 2024, with a deadline of 21 October 2024 for federations to express their interest. Candidate cities will now have until March 2025 to prepare their final proposals. In May 2025, UEFA will announce its decision on the cities that will host these prestigious finals, in an edition that promises to be historic for both competitions.

Expectations are growing as to which cities will have the honor of hosting, as both the men’s and women’s finals have grown in popularity and importance, especially the women’s, both being global events that attract fans from all corners of the globe.
