The UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, to be held in Switzerland, hasn’t started yet and it already broke a record: a total of €41 million will be distributed among participating teams, marking a 156% increase compared to the previous edition. For the first time, each player will receive a guaranteed payment, a groundbreaking step for European women’s football.

The figure far exceeds the €16 million awarded in England 2022 and is five times higher than the €8 million distributed in the Netherlands 2017. This decision is part of a conscious effort by UEFA to recognize the symbolic and practical value of prize money, according to Nadine Kessler, head of women’s football at the organization, who stated they want “everyone who contributes to the tournament’s success to be rewarded.”

Historic prizes for teams and players

Each of the 16 participating federations will receive €1.8 million just for taking part—more than double what was awarded in the previous edition. Additionally, results in the group stage will bring extra incentives: €100,000 for a win and €50,000 for a draw. As the tournament progresses, amounts will increase, reaching up to €1.75 million for the champions.

The team that wins the title and wins all their matches could earn up to €5.1 million, more than twice the amount England earned in 2022. Clubs will also benefit: the compensation for releasing players will rise from €4.5 to €6 million. In this way, Euro 2025 will not only reward sporting performance, but also set a new standard for equity and recognition in women’s football.
