In an exclusive interview with Olympics, Andrea Varnier, CEO of Milano Cortina 2026, shared his experience during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and provided an update on the preparations for the upcoming Winter Games. With only 515 days remaining until the event, Varnier emphasized the importance of the lessons learned in Paris and how they are being applied to ensure success in 2026.

Varnier explained that the “geographical and cultural proximity between France and Italy” allowed the Milano Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee to make the most of their participation in Paris. At Casa Italia, over 100 members of Varnier’s team took part in various activities, from observing the International Olympic Committee to marketing and engaging with key partners. This experience not only provided a valuable boost of energy but also deep insights into managing critical operations, such as the Olympic Village and transportation.

Regarding the promotion of the 2026 Games, Casa Italia played a pivotal role. Varnier highlighted how they used a “multimedia corner” to showcase what the Games will be like, in addition to launching an athlete ambassador program that included champions like Sofia Goggia and Federica Pellegrini. The involvement of these athletes not only generated excitement but also actively engaged the audience through social media, demonstrating an innovative approach to connecting with fans.

Varnier also addressed the specific challenges faced by the Winter Games, particularly in terms of infrastructure and logistics. Despite these challenges, he expressed “confidence in the progress of the works and the team’s ability to meet deadlines.” Additionally, he announced that the volunteer program will be launched on September 19, which will be crucial in creating the right atmosphere during the Games.

Finally, Varnier emphasized that the Milano Cortina 2026 Games will be unique due to their combination of urban and mountainous settings. With events taking place in iconic locations such as Bormio and Val di Fiemme, these Games promise to offer an unforgettable experience for winter sports enthusiasts, blending tradition, innovation, and passion.
