The world of athletics is about to witness a revolution with the arrival of the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, an event designed to deliver an electrifying, high-intensity experience for both athletes and fans. The inaugural championship will take place from September 11 to 13, 2026, at the National Athletics Center in Budapest, Hungary, an iconic venue that has previously hosted world-class competitions.

The choice of 2026 as the inaugural year is no coincidence. With no major global events like the Olympics or World Championships scheduled that year, it presents the perfect opportunity to introduce a tournament that aims to innovate and captivate. After two years of planning, the Ultimate Championship is poised to become a landmark event in the world of athletics.

COMPACT FORMAT AND ELITE COMPETITION

The World Athletics Ultimate Championship stands out for its unique format: three days of competition with just three evening sessions, each lasting three hours. This compact design ensures an action-packed event, blending track events, jumps, and throws to keep spectators on the edge of their seats. Confirmed disciplines include the 100m, 1500m, mixed 4x100m and 4x400m relays, as well as pole vault and javelin throw.

Only the best in the world will compete in this event. Current world and Olympic champions, along with Diamond League winners, will secure their spots automatically, while the remaining athletes will qualify through the World Ranking system. Additionally, competitors will represent their countries, proudly donning their national uniforms to reinforce the spirit of global unity and competition.

This championship not only marks the beginning of a new tradition but also promises to set a standard of excellence and excitement in the world of track and field. The countdown has begun!
