World Curling season opens with World Mixed Championship in Scotland

Aberdeen, Scotland will open the 2024–2025 World Curling season by hosting 39 international teams at the World Mixed Curling Championship from 12–19 October. This is the fourth consecutive year that the championship has been hosted in Aberdeen.

TEAMS

Sweden are the reigning World Mixed champions, after defeating Spain 8-2 in the 2023 final. The Swedes will be represented by a new lineup this year, skipped by Simon Grandbom. Spain’s two-time silver medallists (2023 and 2018) return with the same lineup, skipped by Sergio Vez.

Canada has had the most overall success at the championships, with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze over the years. They currently sit in first place on the World Mixed Rankings followed by Sweden and Spain.

FORMAT AND SCHEDULE

The World Mixed is an open entry event for World Curling Member Associations. The mixed gender teams, composed two female and two male players are organised in five groups, based on the Mixed Team ranking. All five groups will play a round-robin series within their group, beginning on Saturday (12 October) at 08.00 until Thursday 17 October.

At the end of the round-robin stage there will be a ranking for first, second, third and fourth position within each group. The top three teams from each group qualify directly for the 1/8 finals. Then, the best ranked fourth place team — comparing Draw Shot Challenge (DSC) average amongst the fourth placed teams — will round out the final 16. The 1/8 finals will be played on Friday (18 October) at 09.00 and 13.00, followed by the quarter-finals at 19.00. The semi-finals will take place on Saturday (19 October) at 09.00 and both medal games will be at 15.00.

All games will be eight ends.

HOW TO WATCH

All sheets and draws of the World Mixed Curling Championship will be available to stream live on The Curling Channel. Additionally, five feature games will be broadcast with commentary.
