With just months to go until the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships, senior officials from World Taekwondo have completed a three-day inspection visit to Wuxi, China, signaling strong progress and full readiness on the part of the host city.

From April 8 to 10, WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue and Secretary General Mr. Jeongkang Seo led a high-level delegation through a comprehensive review of the city’s preparations. The agenda included detailed briefings by the Wuxi Organizing Committee, venue inspections, and high-level meetings with local and national stakeholders.

The October Championships will be preceded by two major events: the WT Council Meeting and the General Assembly, the latter scheduled for October 23. This year’s Assembly will be particularly significant, as it will include elections for WT President, Vice Presidents, and Council Members. Notably, the number of Council Members will be reduced from 37 to 25, a major step in WT’s ongoing governance reform aimed at improving efficiency and accountability.

Throughout the visit, WT staff held focused working sessions with their Chinese counterparts, covering core operational areas such as athlete services, competition management, protocol, transportation, marketing, and media operations. A separate session was held with the design agency tasked with developing the Championships’ branding and visual identity.

Wuxi, a reliable partner for World Taekwondo

Wuxi, in Jiangsu Province, is no stranger to world-class taekwondo. Having hosted both the Grand Slam and the World Cup Team Championships, the city has built a strong foundation in infrastructure and organizational experience—making it a trusted partner for WT’s most prestigious event.

WT officials also met with Zhang Zhi, the newly elected President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association, as well as senior representatives from the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau and the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government. Chinese officials reaffirmed their full commitment to supporting the event and pledged the necessary resources to ensure its success.

“This visit confirmed that Wuxi is fully committed and capable of hosting a world-class championship,” said WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue. “Our collaboration with Chinese authorities and the local organizing team is progressing very positively, and we look forward to an exceptional event that embodies excellence, fairness, and global unity.”

With the Championships drawing closer, WT’s latest visit reinforces its confidence in Wuxi’s ability to deliver a successful and memorable tournament—both in terms of competition and global impact.
