At 17 years old, Ángel Barajas has become the present of Colombian artistic gymnastics. After a magnificent performance at the Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, where he won a silver medal, Ángel has achieved a place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This great performance left him at the top of the qualifying ranking on bars parallels.
The young Colombian comes from an impressive harvest of triumphs in different youth categories, in 2021 he won a gold medal in pommel horse at the Pan American Championships, by 2022 he won seven gold medals at the South American Games, in 2023 at the World Championships Artistic Gymnastics in Antalya won gold in floor and parallel bars, silver in the individual competition and bronze in horizontal bar.
Only in 2024 did Ángel enter adult competitions, quickly standing out by winning the bronze medal at the Cairo World Cup. Additionally, during this season, he achieved another bronze in the fixed bar and parallel bar disciplines at the World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.
For the Cucuteño, these will be his first Olympic Games and he is emerging as one of the leaders in South America. The National Olympic Committee of Colombia has said that it hopes to take at least 70 athletes to the Olympic Games and Barajas joins the athletes who, so far, have already confirmed their presence at the Paris 2024 Olympic event.
