The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced the criteria and application process to access the Para Badminton Participation Grants for new athletes. These financial aids will allow female and male athletes to participate in international tournaments, in addition to undergoing official qualification for competitions in 2025 and 2026.

The objective of this initiative is to facilitate access to the global competitive arena for athletes wishing to develop in the six Para Badminton categories recognized by the BWF: WH1, WH2, SL3, SL4, SU5 and SH6. Applications are open worldwide for those who meet the established requirements.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CRITERIA

To be eligible and qualify for one of the Para Badminton Participation Scholarships, athletes must meet the following criteria:

  • Be affiliated with their National Badminton Federation, National Para Badminton Federation or National Paralympic Committee.
  • Be eligible for BWF international classification in one of the six Para Badminton sport classes.
  • Participate in structured badminton training on at least a weekly basis.

The BWF has stressed the importance of these requirements to ensure continued development of athletes within a consistent training program tailored to their needs.

THREE TOURNAMENTS TO ENSURE SUPPORT

One of the highlights of the scholarship program is its structure designed to ensure athlete retention and development. To receive financial support, recipients must participate in three BWF-sanctioned Para Badminton tournaments between 2025 and 2026.

  • Tournament 1 in 2025: Athletes will be required to undergo international qualification and may receive up to $900 per participant.
  • Tournament 2 in 2025: Financial support of up to $500 per athlete will be offered.
  • Tournament 3 in 2026: Applications will open in November 2025 and support will be up to $600 per athlete.

PROMOTION OF PARA BADMINTON GLOBALLY

The BWF reaffirms its commitment to the development and promotion of Para Badminton internationally through this participation program. By providing financial resources, the federation seeks to support emerging athletes, especially in countries with fewer opportunities to access international competitions.

These scholarships will not only cover part of the expenses related to participation in tournaments, but will also guarantee the inclusion of new talent in the global ranking system, paving the way for their competitive development.

Those interested in participating should be attentive to the application dates announced by the BWF for each tournament. In particular, the application process for the third 2026 tournament will open in November 2025.
