Electronic sports continue to occupy new spaces in the world. One of them will be in the International Olympic Committee, after the approval of the Olympic eSports Games, agreed to have its first edition in Saudi Arabia in 2025. The new event was unanimously approved in the IOC Member Assembly and celebrated by Global Esports, who commented that the decision is going in the right direction.

“The next step for Esports begins today, with the IOC General Assembly and the approval of the Olympic eSports Games, just a few minutes ago,” said Paul J. Foster, CEO of Global Esports, in an interview with Canal CDO in the framework of the Change The Game Conference organized by UNESCO in Paris, in the days before the Olympic Games.

The opportunity, Foster said, is good news for gamers around the world. “Congratulations to all of them and the Esports athletes. You have a chance to participate. It is a historic day for Esports and gaming,” he expressed. “The numbers of players are around 3.2 billion people in the world. About half of the planet plays Esports. It does not surprise us, it is something very human. This continues to grow by about 7% every year. It is a feeling sustained and it is something very exciting for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, if you have a disability, if you are a man or a woman, everyone can play,” said the CEO of the organization that governs gamers worldwide.

Global Esports was born in 2019 and is based in Singapore. They already have 173 associate members around the world, a growth that increased even more with the 2020 pandemic.

“I think it is something very interesting and that it is increasing. The professionalism of Esports, now you can build a career in it, whether as a game designer, as a caster, broadcaster, creator, you can be a coach. There is a lot of development. There are many different things you can do by participating in the electronic gaming ecosystem,” added the CEO of Global Esports.
