The freediving world has witnessed an unprecedented achievement. This past August 25, Ming (William Joy) Jin, from China, set a new world record in the discipline of Monofin Dynamics, by covering the distance of 307 meters underwater, all with a single breath. This achievement, reached during the AIDA 2024 Asian Swimming Pool Championships, has been officially recognized by AIDA International.

The Monofin Dynamics discipline, which requires athletes to swim horizontally underwater using a single fin, is known for the intense physical and mental challenges it imposes. His dedication and unwavering mental focus allowed him to achieve what few have accomplished, challenging the limits of human potential in the underwater realm. Following his success, Joy expressed, “This record is not only a personal triumph, but a testament to what we can achieve when we dare to push our limits. I feel incredibly honored to represent China and the global freediving community.”

FURTHER PROOF OF FREEDIVING’S GROWTH

Joy’s record has been celebrated with admiration both in the global freediving community and beyond. This achievement highlights the growing interest and participation in the sport, which continues to gain recognition worldwide.

As freediving continues to expand, records like William Joy’s not only inspire future athletes, but also underscore the incredible capabilities of the human body and mind, and remind us of what can be achieved when effort, discipline and passion are combined.
