Qatar has been chosen as the host of the eFIBA World Finals for the fourth and fifth seasons, which will take place in 2026 and 2027. It will be the first time the prestigious electronic basketball tournament is held in the Middle East, marking a milestone for the region and reinforcing the country’s commitment to the development of esports. These Finals will be part of the road to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, which will also be held in Qatar, further strengthening its leading role in the global basketball ecosystem.

The designation of Doha as host reflects its growing drive to position itself as a benchmark in sports innovation. The event will gather the best e-basketball teams in the world, who will compete for the eFIBA World Champion title and a total prize of $50,000. In addition, the decision aligns with Qatars strong support for electronic sports in recent years, including its partnership with the Global Esports Federation and the organization of the 2027 Esports World Games.

A key boost for basketball and eSports in the region

Hosting the eFIBA World Finals in Qatar is a strategic step for both FIBA and the host country. Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Secretary General, emphasized that the event gains relevance by taking place in the lead-up to the 2027 World Cup, attracting greater attention and audience to the digital competition. He also praised Qatar’s interest in integrating electronic sports into basketball development, in line with the organization’s innovation goals.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Al-Meghaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, expressed the pride the country feels in hosting the Finals for the first time. He noted that this event will help promote basketball culture through esports and strengthen ties between Qatar and FIBA. Official broadcasts through YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok will allow millions of fans around the world to follow the tournament, which promises to raise the competitive level and position Doha as one of the world’s leading sports capitals.
