The first League of Nations in Trinquete de Pelota Vasca: why it will be a historic milestone

Paris, France, the last host of the Olympic Games, is preparing to host the first edition of the Pelota Vasca Trinquete Nations League. With growing popularity worldwide, the Trinquete will become the epicenter of the international competition starting September 22 with the promise of great emotions thanks to the 14 countries that will compete in the seven modalities of this traditional sport.

Participants include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay. In total, more than 200 athletes will take part in this event that will mark a before and after in the history of Pelota Vasca and the sport in France.

THE MODALITIES

The competition will include seven different modalities, all of them played in the Trinquete, the emblematic court of Basque Pelota. These modalities are divided into individual and pair events, and are also distributed by gender, with both male and female competitions:

– Pelota mano: individual and pairs
– Paleta with a rubber ball: men and women.
– Paleta with leather ball
– Xare
– Handi

A KEY EVENT FOR THE FUTURE

The 2024 Nations League will not only crown the best in the world, but will also serve as a qualifier for the Pelota Vasca World Cup to be held in Argentina in 2026. The tournament will follow a group format, with a direct elimination final phase, in which each country will fight to take the title.

In addition to the sporting component, athletes will have the opportunity to explore Paris, the city that recently hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games, enjoying its monuments and tourist attractions.
