The International Skating Union (ISU) has taken a key step in its reform process with the election of the three members of its first-ever Elections Committee. This marks the first application of the new constitutional framework approved at the Extraordinary Congress held in Lausanne last July, part of the ISU Vision 2030 strategy.
In a virtual Congress with the participation of 82 members, Laura Raitio (Finland), Jodi Abbott (Canada) and Mark Greenwald (United States) were elected to serve until September 2029. The three were chosen from among five candidates formally nominated by ISU Members and validated by the Council in accordance with the Electoral Code.
Pursuing integrity and transparency
The Elections Committee will be responsible for overseeing all ISU electoral processes, with an eye on the 2026 elections at the 60th Ordinary Congress to be held in Tenerife from June 10 to 12. Its mandate includes managing candidatures, organizing voting procedures, verifying identities and ensuring compliance with the statutes, while guaranteeing transparency towards all Members.
“This new body will ensure that integrity, fairness and transparency are at the core of our electoral activity,” said ISU President Jae Youl Kim, who congratulated the newly elected members and highlighted the progress toward a stronger and more trustworthy organization.
Experience and diversity in the new structure
The elected profiles reflect the international dimension of skating and the variety of roles required. Abbott brings her technical expertise as an international referee in Ice Dance and Figure Skating disciplines; Raitio contributes leadership experience as former president of the Finnish Skating Federation; and Greenwald, with more than 50 years of involvement in the sport as a skater, coach and former CEO of US Speed Skating, offers strategic vision and management expertise.
