On Wednesday, World Sailing reviewed the progress made in the first half of the year, including the launch of the World Sailing Inclusion Championships, the confirmation of venues for the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games, and the selection of equipment for the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
The organization welcomed the confirmation of the venues for sailing in Los Angeles 2028. Belmont Shore, in the Long Beach Zone, which already hosted the Olympic sailing competition in 1984, and the Port of Los Angeles, also home to the 2025 Sail GP in Los Angeles, will be the hubs for the boat and board events, offering optimal conditions for both athletes and spectators.
Training and diversity in international sailing
World Sailing has launched the World Sailing Academy, a free online training platform designed to facilitate education and training in the international sailing community. This initiative responds to the commitment made in the Ready for the Future strategy, aimed at the global development of the sport.
Competitions held around the world continue to showcase the diversity of sailing. The Corinthian Yacht Club has won the 2025 Team Racing World Championships, the first edition after a decade of absence. In addition, champions have been crowned in events such as the Congressional Cup, the Santa Maria Cup, the Match Cup Sweden, and the Nordea Women’s Trophy, all under the umbrella of World Match Racing.
The rise of virtual sailing
In the digital arena, the 12 finalists who will compete in the live final of the eSailing World Championship this year in Gdynia, one of the venues for the upcoming World Sailing Championships, have already been announced. The expansion of virtual sailing continues to attract new participants and consolidate its place on the international calendar.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the World Sailing Annual Conference and World Sailing Awards, which will take place in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland. The program and accommodation options are now available on the World Sailing website, and registration will open shortly.
The Annual Conference represents a special moment for the global sailing family, which comes together to share experiences, contribute to the development of the sport, and pay tribute to those who have excelled both on and off the water. The organization encourages maximum participation by representatives in Ireland in November.
